IDEA Workshop Series

The Canadian Council for Youth Prosperity (CCYP) presents the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IDEA) Webinar Series. This collection of online sessions aim to provide foundational knowledge for employers, HR professionals, career development professionals and employment service providers to help them build healthy and inclusive workspaces for youth workers.

Each session will provide a youth-friendly lens, along with lived experiences to create a comprehensible and in-depth guide.

Session #1: Multiculturalism and Diversity in the Workplace

Session #1 will explore the impact of diversity on the workforce and how to best utilize the positive characteristics that it brings. We will also explore strategies and best practices to implement when facing intolerance and physical, emotional and mental boundaries.

Together we will go over the following learning objectives:

  • Having a foundational understanding of basic terminology, including: multiculturalism, diversity, and types of boundaries

  • Understanding how multiculturalism and diversity have impacted the workplace

  • Knowing how to navigate and create inclusive workplaces.

  • Learning the best practices to encourage and foster multicultural and diverse workplaces

Session #2: Introduction to Types of Biases

April 19, 2023 • 2:00-3:00 PM (EDT) 

Session #2 introduces the types of biases that exist, the detriment they can cause in the workplace, and how to become cognizant of them. Join us to build a foundational knowledge base needed to appreciate and foster diverse and inclusive workspaces for healthier and more efficient workplaces.


Together we will go over the following learning objectives:

  • Having a foundational understanding of basic terminology, including: biases, power, and privilege.

  • Identify and define biases and how they can appear in quotidian interactions at work.

  • Knowing intersections of privilege and identity.

Session #3:  Microaggressions in the Workplace

May 17, 2023 • 2:00-3:00 PM (EDT) 

Session #3 navigates microaggressions, from the unconscious bias that might feed it, to the impact it leaves on every level, and how to address and prevent such incidents. Join us to build a foundational knowledge base needed to face discrimination and foster healthier and more efficient workplaces.


Together we will go over the following learning objectives:

  • Having a foundational understanding of basic terminology, including: microaggressions (types and definitions), unconscious bias, allyship, and by-stander effect.

  • Understanding how microaggressions impact an individual in their mental and physical health, and understanding how microaggressions impact the collective environment.

  • Knowing how to navigate microaggressions, create preventative measures and best practices.

Session #4: Designing a Non-Performative and Socially Conscious Workplace

Session #4 navigates best practices to ensure non-performative work places that actively and continuously strive to incorporate social justice values. Join us to build a foundational knowledge base needed to appreciate and foster diverse and inclusive workspaces for healthier and more efficient workplaces.


Together we will go over the following learning objectives:

  • Having a foundational understanding of basic terminology, including: social justice, systems of oppression, performative behaviour, microcosm theory of representation, inclusive language, top-down, bottom-up, and lateral communications.

  • Understanding why it is important to create socially aware environments and how workspaces operate within social frameworks.

  • How to  create non-performative initiatives, integrate inclusive language and enforce equitable practices at work.

Session #5: Enhancing Workforce Diversity - How Immigrant Employees Benefit Your Business

The Canadian workforce ecosystem is more diverse than ever before. A significant portion of the labour force comes from immigrants. Session #5 navigates the current diverse credentials and lived experiences. Join us to build the foundational knowledge base needed to appreciate and foster diverse and inclusive workspaces for healthier and more efficient workplaces.


Together we will go over the following learning objectives:

  • Having a foundational understanding of terminology, including: intentional learning, intercultural competence, and soft vs hard skills.

  • Understanding the importance of transferable and soft skills in creating workspaces with intentional learning.

  • Understanding the lived experiences that come with diverse credentials and training.

  • Understanding the barriers newcomers face when adjusting to new work environments.
