Current Opportunities

Research Assistant

The Canadian Council for Youth Prosperity (CCYP) is a national, non-profit organization supporting youth workforce development in Canada. We tackle the challenges of youth employment to ensure youth grow, contribute, and prosper. We believe in amplifying collaboration, knowledge sharing, and critical skills across the network by leveraging intelligence gathering on behalf of the ecosystem.

We are currently seeking a candidate for a Research Assistant position who will support the team at CCYP by conducting research into a wide-ranging set of topics, such as labour policies in Canada, geographic and regional patterns/disparities in socio-economic development, labour market analytics, education and technology policies, all with particular reference to youth-related issues. Topics are not limited to the above.

The Research Assistant will work closely with other members of the CCYP research team and perform the following key roles:

  • Information gathering and data compiling support,

  • Writing, preparing summaries of policy briefs, articles, book chapters for the research team, CCYP’s many other programs and CCYP partners,

  • Represent CCYP at external forums,

  • Provide mentorship and guidance on research and advocacy to CCYP programs, and

  • Support internal and external program evaluations.

The Research Assistant may be expected to perform other job duties as required.

Basic qualifications

  • Masters (or in the process of obtaining) in public policy, political science, geography and/or other social sciences.

  • Knowledge of and interest in socio-economic issues in Canada.

  • Exceptional writing skills with the ability to translate research findings into language suitable for general audiences.

  • Strong analytical skills and demonstrated comfort with statistics and knowledge of STATA.

  • Comfort with spreadsheets.

  • Ability to work with large datasets.

  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities and effectively work in a collaborative environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision under tight deadlines.

Additional qualifications

  • Candidates with an Arts & Sciences background specializing in economics, geography or political science, and basic quantitative research are encouraged to apply. The preference is for economics students.

  • Some experience with data management and spreadsheets and demonstrated knowledge of various research methods and statistical techniques are preferred.

  • Relevant coursework may count towards experience.

Additional information

  • Employment Term: 1-Year Contract with potential for renewal

  • Pay range: $38K – 43K; 35 hours per week

  • Benefits: Comprehensive benefit package
